“Picture of Health” Rotman Takeaways

Last night’s Picture of Health event confirmed something Professor Zayna Khayat of Rotman put precisely: Canada is running 2026 healthcare on 1984 infrastructure. That slide stopped the room. It should.

Three observations from the room stood out.

Care does not to only be delivered in hospitals. Expanding where and how we deliver it is not a luxury; it is a structural requirement, because it’s sensible and costs less. Artificial Intelligence has legitimate clinical purpose when applied with guardrails. This opportunity is real because is can reduce redundancy, integrate fragmented and unstructured data, and address precious medical human resource shortfalls.

True prevention means intervening before the disease. Not responding to symptoms. Intervening before they develop.

These are not aspirational ideas. They are our operational logic of when I built Health In A Box: a physician-led, virtual care model that brings proactive, biomarker-guided assessment directly to individuals, with an AI co-pilot that improves both follow-through and outcomes.

The healthcare system we need already exists in pieces. The work now is integration, accountability, and the will, both political and corporate, to fund prevention the way we fund a crisis.
