				<div class="elementor-widget-container">
									<div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">I almost didn&#x27;t go to the Longevity Wellness Expo in Toronto this year. I was afraid of what I would find. Compounding pharmacies touting peptides. Companies selling solutions with little scientific validity. Supplements sold on unvalidated claims, of poor quality or at inferior doses. After thirty years in this field, some of it still confuses me. So I kept thinking about the average person walking those aisles, simply trying to take better care of themselves.</span></p></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">I went because a friend asked me to support their booth, a Canadian company with real science behind it, and I couldn&#x27;t say no. I was also on the speaker list, and once people saw thirty years in longevity medicine beside my name, they came looking for me.</span></p></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">They all asked the same question. How do you build a longevity clinic that works?</span></p></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">Then they walked me through their plans. Some sounded reasonable: a program at around five thousand dollars. Others told me they would charge twenty-five thousand, because it was exclusive. Add a sauna. Add a hyperbaric chamber. Order every test available.</span></p></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">I asked each of them one thing. What justifies that price?</span></p></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">Then the questions that matter more. Who is interpreting those results? Who is telling the client which findings are valid, which are noise, and what to do next?</span></p></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">In too many of these plans, the room, the equipment and the menu of tests came first. The medicine came last.</span></p></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><h3><span class="">What longevity medicine actually is</span></h3></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">Strip away the equipment and the marketing, and longevity medicine has a clear job. Prevent the three conditions most likely to cut a life short: heart disease, diabetes and cancer. And catch them early.</span></p></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">Get prevention and early detection right, and a longer life follows.</span></p></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">That work depends on clinical judgment. Knowing which tests matter for this person. Reading results in the context of their history rather than against a reference range. Recognizing an early pattern years before it becomes a diagnosis. And staying with the client long enough to see the numbers move.</span></p></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">A sauna won&#x27;t stop a heart attack. A hyperbaric chamber won&#x27;t catch cancer in time. And ozone therapy won&#x27;t move a single real number. When the equipment becomes the product, the client pays for the room and goes without the medicine.</span></p></div> </div>

									<div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><h3><span class="">There is no shortcut to judgment</span></h3></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">Everyone at the expo wanted the shortcut. There isn&#x27;t one.</span></p></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">Judgment in this field is earned over decades, one patient at a time. It doesn&#x27;t get handed over at a booth, or in a startup, and it doesn&#x27;t arrive with a weekend course and a certificate.</span></p></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">I have spent thirty years in prevention, long before longevity had a name. What a person is really paying for is rarely the test itself. It is the physician who knows what the result means, what it doesn&#x27;t mean, and what to do about it.</span></p></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">So my question to anyone rushing to open a longevity clinic.</span></p></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">Longevity is now a market, and markets attract capital, equipment and good design. People are being asked to pay serious money on the promise of a longer life. They deserve to know what they are buying.</span></p></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">So my question to the pop-up clinics is simple. Do you really believe people will trust you with their health because the room looks good, the equipment is shiny, and your lead doctor did a course and got a certificate in longevity medicine?</span></p></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">And to anyone weighing one of these programs, ask the questions I asked at the expo. What justifies the price? Who is interpreting my results? Who is telling me they&#x27;re valid?</span></p></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">The answers will tell you whether you&#x27;re paying for medicine, or for the room.</span></p></div><div class="article-main__content" data-test-id="publishing-text-block"><p><span class="">Elaine Chin, M.D.</span></p></div> </div>
