What is 7-Eleven and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital doing together?

Over the weekend, we found out that from now until January 3, 2017, the convenience store chain, 7-Eleven, is running a fundraising campaign to benefit children suffering from cancer and other deadly diseases with the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. 7-Eleven says they will donate 11 cents from each large Slurpee they sell in the U.S., up to $200,000 (1).

Cancers linked to overweight and obesity include colorectal cancer, liver cancer, gallbladder cancer, pancreatic cancer and thyroid cancer. There are 13 types of cancers that are linked according to this article in the New York Times. These cancers combined, make up 42% percent of all new cancer diagnoses (2).
